Being double-minded leads to double trouble!
Lifescope shows you how to gain stability!
As evening fell, Jesus said to His disciples, "Let's
cross to the other side of the lake." But soon a terrible storm arose. High
waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water and
about to sink. Jesus was asleep at the back of the boat with
His head on a cushion. Frantically they wakened Him, shouting, "Teacher,
don't You even care that we are all about to drown?"
And He awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace!
Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great
calm. And He said to them, "Why are you so timid? How is it that you have no
faith?" And they were filled with awe, and said to one another, "Who then is
this, that even the wind and sea obey Him?"
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God,
Who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given
to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the
one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by
the wind. For let not that man expect that he will receive anything
from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his
ways.
[Jesus said:] "Every one then who hears these words of Mine and does
them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the
rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house,
but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
And every one who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be
like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;
and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against
that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it." So you see,
it isn't enough just to have faith. You must also do
good to prove that you have it. Faith that doesn't show itself by good works
is no faith at all - it is dead and useless. Are there still some
among you who hold that "only believing" is enough? Believing in one God?
Well, remember that the demons believe this too - so strongly
that they tremble in terror! Fool! When will you ever learn that "believing"
is useless without doing what God wants you to? Faith that does not
result in good deeds is not real faith.
